Don’t underestimate Tourist Information!
When in Oslo’s Tourist Information Center, we picked up a promotion about ice hiking in Odda! What?! Awesome. However, it was going to cost 89 Euros. So, we figured we’d get more information in Odda about it since we were on our way there to hike Trolltunga. Once at Odda’s Tourist Information Center, we overheard the fellow chatting with a family that they could hike up to the glacier without a guide. YES! Now that’s what I wanted to hear. Of course, we wouldn’t get the experience of ice climbing with pickaxes and spiked shoes, but it would save us a lot of money. What was better, we discovered that we still had time that very day to hike up to the glacier since the entire hike is estimated to take three hours.
Lesson learned: Thin, full-fingered cycling gloves were handy for climbing up and down the ropes in case if I slipped and wanted to avoid rope burn or feel the gross, wet, slimy rope.
